We didn’t know it at the time, but our wedding day was the same day we entered the wilderness of infertility. We began our journey, believing that sometime during that first year of marriage, we would enter the “promised land” of parenthood. However, what we’ve experienced has been very different than what we expected.
We’ve spent the past eight years navigating a wilderness that seems never-ending and, at times, overwhelming. However, we know that we are not alone; and neither are you. The Lord goes before us, is within us, and surrounds us.
God is leading us just as He led Moses through the wilderness all those years ago. And although we are on the same path as our husbands, we can sometimes be so preoccupied with our hurt that we overlook the pain that infertility is causing him. Like an exhausted woman wandering through the desert, sometimes it takes everything within us to just put one foot in front of the other; to face another day, another negative pregnancy test, or another pregnancy announcement. In our struggle, we can sometimes forget to look over at the man walking beside us.
Today, I urge you to look over.
Although he may not voice it as often as you do, he is hurting. He has the same heartbreak and disappointment that you do; he is just carrying them differently.
Infertility causes deep wounds within both a husband and a wife, wounds that seem to be torn open continuously. And, no matter how much we love our husbands or how much we want to find the right words to comfort them, God is the only person who can heal their hurt.
Praying for our husbands while in the wilderness is one of the most loving and caring things we can do for them. When we pray, we link hands with God and play a part in our husbands’ healing and growth.
The prayers you’ll find in While In The Wilderness: Words to Pray Over Yoru Husband As You Walk Through Infertility Together, are meant to serve as a starting point to your own intimate prayers for your husband. Before you begin praying, ask the Lord to reveal the ways you can be specifically praying for your husband in this season of your life. Once you finish praying through each of these prayers, don’t stop! Keep covering your husband in prayer every day.
Let’s be women who continuously pray for our husbands, even while in the wilderness.
